Why do People care?

Although this is hardly off topic, I couldn't decide the section. It seems that whenever I go out with someone, even on a casual date, all of the entire school (I am in High School) seems to know within an hour. I personlaly do not care that Joe is going out wiht Kate, its their buisness, and I hardly become offended over it. I am kinda hopping that this is just a phase of sorts in high school, cause I find it really, really stupid and fairly annoying. Anyway, I was wondering why do people care so much about other people's personal lives?

Well teenagers usually like to revel in other people's business because it is one of the few things they have to entertain themselves (and they know who Kate or Joe is). Not say this doesn't happen with adults, such as in college or in the work place, but people like to know the relationship status of others - simply because it is entertaining or because it provides a point of comparison to their own relationships.
