Overweight spouse

Doesn't matter which gender is overweight. How has it affected your relationship? I've heard the old, "if you love that person, their appearance wouldn't matter" stuff, but the reality is, when you were first attracted to your partner, wasn't it because of their appearance? Isn't that why men and women dress up when they go out?

Re: Overweight spouse

I think it is important to try to stay in shape, especially if your spouse has indicated that they would like you to. Yes, they will love you anyway... But we should not take it for granted and ignore their desire to see us in shape. Overweight figure is not attractive, it's that simple. So I think both women and men need to take some effort to keep their weight in check.

I also think staying in shape now impacts your life later on. If you are fit and trim, have an exercise routine when young, you're more likely to keep it as you get older. What that means is as you age, your muscles and bones are still relatively strong. That also means more quality time together instead of constant visits to the doctor's office for aches and pains.

Re: Overweight spouse

It does make a lot of difference.

The sexual appeal is lost when the other person gains weight

I think it does make a difference. As a woman who has gained weight after pregnancies I know it has change my relationship a little, but that is more to do with my self confidence with my body, rather than my husbands influence.

Re: Overweight spouse

I think some people who are in unhappy relationships make themselves unattractive to their partner on purpose - just to get to him/her. This includes putting on weight.

How many overweight couples do you know who are obviously unhappy? I suspect a few!
