Exclamation birth control shot, safe or not?

hello, this is actually my first topic post, i went on the depo shot for the first time, and they said the spotting will me normal all through the first 3 months, just told me not to have unprotected sex during the first 2 weeks to let it get use to my body, okay well i did that.. then 3 months pass and it comes time to take the second shot.. and i did

me and my boy friend had sex, and he cam, then we had sex again with out covering it or washing him off.. 2weeks havent passed since the shot, and i havent spotted at all. (they said the spotting may stop completly after a few shots, and i wont have my period at all for three months) well im kinda scared, im not sure if the birth control kicked in or not. if it still workes then or not.......i know it was a dumb move to have sex anyways... but im just wondering

could i be pregnate?

I'd wait a couple of weeks & keep watching things & keep track of things & watch things really close too & DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE ... at least having any more SEX with your boyfriend & then if you are still feeling bad then I would get into see a OB - GYN ok and do keep us posted or if your wanting a OLDER FEMALE to talk with ... just drop me a note sometime !! It's easier to talk with a WOMAN instead of a man about these sort of things !!

Good Luck & I am praying for you !!

You may also want to ask this question on Lady Majora. It's an all-female zoints forum. I've never personally used the shot, but I know some of the ladies there have.

Excellent idea Dan!

Pixie, your best bet would be to see your doctor and get everything worked out that way. Good luck!

the shot can be very tricky. I've been on it for about 2½ years now, and I've known 3 other people who have been on it. I had spotting for at least a year after I had started getting them, and two of my other friends didnt have any spotting at all. After that first year, I lost my period altogether. Some people gain weight because of it, and some dont. There's no one certain way it's 'supposed to' work. One of my friends had told me that she's had unprotected sex many times while on the shot and that he went off inside her and that she hasnt gotten pregnant so far. I'm not condoning her actions, but I'm saying that it's quite possible that you're not pregnant. You can actually psyche yourself out... you can be so terrified that you're pregnant, that your body will begin to think that it is, and it will begin to show early signs of pregnancy... like the others have said, it's best to just wait and watch.. maybe get a preg test, too.

The fact that you believe that you have lowered your chances of pregnancy because you "ran in the house and got the shower head and washed out like 6 times" really scares me. This will do absolutely NOTHING in helping you prevent a pregnancy. It's almost as ridiculous as the myth of jumping up and down after sex to reduce your chances. I really think you need to educate yourself more about these things. Also if you are really that worried about getting pregnant even while on BC, there are other preventative methods such as spermicide, condoms etc that you can try as well.

ETA: Pulling out isn't a great idea/method either as there is the presence of sperm in pre-ejaculate.
