A woman can get pregnant no matter how much protection you use. No form of birth control is 100% effective. However, as far as I know, birth control pills, etc. are just as effective during menstruation as any other time provided she's taking them properly and she's had it in her system long enough for it to become effective. I could be wrong, but I've never been warned otherwise by my gynecologist. If you really want a detailed answer, I suggest calling a pharmacist and asking. I don't think you're in any greater risk than at any other time though.

You get pregnant when you are ovulating normally...it is like clock work...normally it is about 12 days after your period. Many women can't tell...it is a crystal clear thick discharge... and basically if you have unprotected sex a few days prior and or after... expect to expand your family! There are many educational and fun sec ed classes out there...sign up... but track your ovulation schedule...
