This happend to me and I was just really disappointed that the person couldn't say it to my face. It did make it easy because she didn't have to put emotion into the break-up and I just signed offline when she was done, but I think it was really lame that she couldn't do it to my face. With the internet being soo common with high school kids and beyond, I was wondering how many people have been broke-up or been broken-up with over the internet? Also if anyone has been broken-up with in an e-mail?

In middle school, a girl broke up with me over AIM. I argued with her, then got depressed and angry for a week. We had only been together 3 months, and for some reason it took me what seemed like forever to get over it. I've never broken up with anyone online or over the phone, and I never would. It's too disrespectful, even if they cheated on you. |

Yeah my ex broke up with me on msn. We had been together for 16 months... quite a long time and I definitely loved her quite a bit. It certainly wasn't a great way to hear from her that it was over, and I feel I deserved a lot more respect than that. I was depressed for about 2 weeks before I started going out and having fun. Meeting other girls and having the odd one nighters helped me get over the most.

...but I disagree. Why should you show them any level respect when they have totally disrespected you and your relationship? Respect is something that needs to be deserved... if you're going to show complete disrespect to someone then you surely don't deserve any respect from them. Just my opinion. | |

Breaking up with someone on the phone is acceptable if you ask me, but online is just horrible. It shows that the person didn't care at all, and is really lame in the end. I remember back in middle school it was all about online asking-out and breaking-up. |

Back in junior high i guess it was the thing to do. But now i really think breaking up over the phone or online is really impersonal and almost disrespectful. Of course it is easier to say certain things to a person when you aren't directly in front of them, but I really do think that breaking up face-to-face is the only way to actually show your emotions and not disrespect the other person completely.
